Dogs.. to hit or not to hit...?

I'm just curious how many people think it is ok to hit a dog if it's misbehaving and how many think it's not. For both arguments please tell me why you think that way.I have seen so many of both arguements and want to know which side really has a valid explination why not.. For example.. Not to hit because they won't love you or respect you. To hit, they have to be put in their place otherwise they think they are more dominant. What do you think? And for both sides is it possible that you might be wrong about thinking the way you do about it? To hit is it possible that you might be wrong to hit your dog? And Not to hit is is possible that you are spoiling your dog and it won't respect you if you don't hit it?Just wanna know your opinions.
